Mining Regulations & Permits

Managed by the Minerals Commission of Ghana. IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: Small-scale mining (legal) vs. Galamsey (illegal artisanal). Recreational prospecting falls under small-scale regulations. Must obtain license and distinguish from illegal galamsey operations.

Permitting Process

Apply through Minerals Commission for small-scale mining license. Required: Ghanaian partner or company registration (50% Ghanaian ownership required), environmental permit, land access agreement, operational plan. Foreigners can only partner with Ghanaian-registered entities. Processing 3-6 months.
